The Village Co-op began it's Membership Drive with an exciting Community Information Session on Thursday, May 3, 2012. The engaging crowd of 70-80 were the first to buy Community Memberships in the co-op. We hope you will consider doing the same - our goal is to sell 200-400 memberships in the days and weeks ahead. Please print a copy of our Community Membership Form, fill it out, and mail it in, with your membership fee.
We are asking interested community members to purchase advanced memberships in order to support the set-up phase of this new, not-for-profit, sustainable local food co-op to open in July 2012. An annual community membership will be priced at $50 and can be paid by cheque payable to the "Village Co-operative".
As we reach the end of construction, and get ready to open our doors, we are excited to invite you to come and attend our second community information session at 2 pm on Sunday, June 3rd - location TBD. Save the date and follow us on twitter @VillageCoop to find out where it will be hosted.
The Village Co-op Workers will be giving a presentation on the vision, organizational structure, and retail offerings. We are asking community members for feedback and input on the types of products they would like to have made available.
The name “Village Co-op” was chosen partly due to our location at 692 King Street West in Portsmouth Village but mostly because a village represents the types of relationships we encourage between farmers, workers, eaters and everyone involved in bringing local foods from our fields to our tables. Through our unique co-operative model engaging farmers, workers, and community members, The Village Co-op will offer local, seasonal, and sustainable foods such as artisanal sourdough breads, baked goods, soups, sauces, pizzas, fair trade coffees and chocolate, and more through catering and retail. The Co-op is committed to engaging and educating our community in issues of food and social justice, fair labour practices, and alternative business models, and would love to have you involved.
Any questions can be directed to worker member, Kym Nacita – kym@villageco-op.org or Andrew McCann – andrew@villageco-op.org . You can also follow us on twitter @Villagecoop for more information.
